An unusual and excellent example of what must certainly be one of the most intricate forms of inlay used on antique woodenware. In terms of micro mosaic inlays Sadeli Ware generally plays second fiddle to the more renowned Tunbridge Ware but the skills required to produce Sadeli Ware arguably were superior given the smaller pieces, the varying exact shapes to produce the designs and last but certainly not least the variation with the material used. This particular example differs from most given the pinned hinged lid that enables the lid to sit flush with the top of the base section and the addition of the ‘basket’ type handle. With the exception of some VERY slight loss to the inlays on the corners the box is in truly remarkable condition. Inlays to all aspects. Original finely turned feet. Original ring pull for the lid. Interior in very clean condition. Compare the condition of this example to any others that are available. Must be examined closely, preferably with a magnifying glass to get a better appreciation of the skills required to produce such works of art.
