Superb Guy Rogers New Yorker High Back Lounge Chair

1 of 6
A Stunning 1960's Guy Rogers High-Back Lounge Chair
Unquestionably one of the very best seating designs from the hallowed 'Mid-Century Modern' era, the 'New Yorker', manufactured by Guy Rogers of Liverpool, represents Britain at its furniture-making best, going toe to toe with the high-end Scandinavian designs of the 1960's.
Conceived by George Fejer and Eric Phamphilon, this incredibly stylish offering is matched by its attention to detail and outright quality of construction. Crafted from solid Afrormosia (teak) throughout, the design is a picture of understated elegance where functionality meets wonderfully pared-down lines and subtle detailing. There is absolutely nothing superfluous, the chair encourages comfortable, supportive yet relaxed seating and is simply a great place to spend some time with a drink, a good book or to watch TV.
This chair is 100% fresh to market and has come to me from an excellent one-owner home, has been well-cared for and, all in all, is a credit to its former keepers.
Note, this chair has seen well over half a century's worth of use, so there are a few minor knocks and surface scratches in places, but I can honestly say that it ranks significantly above average and is one of the best of its kind that I've ever had. It is 100% solid and tight - entirely free from any breaks, repairs or weak / loose joinery. If I was to be super critical I'd say that there is some minor marking of some kind to the rear of one of the back rails (more photos available - just call or email).
The foam and upholstery is not original but in good order and the chair is useable as is. The foam is quite firm and thick and is not 'crunchy' or about to disintegrate. The covers have zips so can be removed for washing. You could of course have new foam and covers made to suit your exact requirements....a relatively inexpensive job.
I understand the webbing to the chair is around 7 years old. It's serviceable and still provides adequate support so I have decided to leave this in place, although again it could also be changed if desired, but this isn't essential.
Approx Dimensions -
82 cms deep x 68 cms wide. Height to follow shortly.

As described above.
Excellent overall.
Minor marking to one rail at the back.
All in all a super example.
