Silver Proof Coin Set Coinage of Belize 1974
COINAGE OF BELIZE, COLLECTOR'S STERLING SILVER PROOF SET, 1974
A collector's sterling silver proof coin set, the Coinage of Belize 1974. A cased set of eight coins, in various denominations ranging from one cent to ten dollars.
The coins come in their original fitted case and complete with Certificate of Authenticity (COA). This has the protective plastic top layer still in place as originally issued.
Also included is the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) confirming the coins are solid sterling silver and minted by The Franklin Mint under the authorisation of the government of Belize.
The set accompanied with the original letter, cased and with the original cardboard box as issued.
The face of each coin bears a portrait of one of the fascinating tropical birds of Belize. The Great Curassow, portrayed on the ten-dollar coin, is a game bird which lives in the mountainous areas. The five-dollar coin bears a handsome sculpture of the colourful Keel-Billed Toucan - a bird whose elongated beak is a rainbow of five different colours. It is one of the noisiest inhabitants of the lush forests of Belize, its cry carrying for half a mile or more. The Scarlet Macaw, appearing on the one-dollar piece, is a memorable sight with its gaudy plumage and long, graceful tail. The fifty-cent coin portrays the seven-foot wingspan of the Magnificent Frigate Bird, while the Blue-Crowned Motmot, with its curiously shaped tail, graces the obverse of the twenty-five-cent piece. The ten-cent and five-cent coins depict the Long-Tailed Hermit and the Fork-Tailed Flycatcher - the first a dweller of Belize's tropical forest, the second a common sight in the savannahs and open country. Lastly there is the one-cent coin, whose obverse portrays the lovely gliding flight of the Swallow-Tailed kite.
