Silver Benson Hunter Pocket Watch & Silver Albert

1 of 6
Silver Benson Hunter Pocket Watch
London 1891
Movement Signed:
"The Keyless Ludgate
J W Benson
Patent No. 4658
Best London Make
By Warrant to H. M. The Queen
Ludgate Hill
London"
The plain silver case has surface marks associated with normal use and age. It has the hallmark is three places along with the makers mark JWB for J W Benson. Press the winder and, as the spring no longer works, open the front cover with your thumbnail to reveal the dial which is signed J W Benson, London. The dial is a crisp white with no cracks or hairlines. (When closing the cover, press in the winder to avoid wear to the silver cover against the clasp).
To set the hands, press in the pin at four o'clock and turn the winder. (Do not pull the winder as you would for later watches).
To view the movement, open the hinged back cover with your thumbnail or case opening tool and likewise the dust cover. Avoid doing this frequently as it allows dust to enter the movement.
With a Silver Albert and Silver 1911 Six Pence Coin Fob. The silver marks on the chain are mainly rubbed smooth but the lion passant is visible on several links and on the clasp. The chain would originally have been a double Albert but has been converted into a single with a double strand.
Approximate dimensions: diameter 51.5mm, weight 143 grams, Albert length including fob 21.5cm, weight 30.2 grams, total weight 173.2 grams.
The movement has been serviced and is working well.
Movement guaranteed for 12 months.
An impressive English silver hunter pocket watch and Albert.
