Sheep at rest John Duvall 1816-1892 19th Century
A 19th century oil on panel depicting sheep at rest on a country path with crows in flight and in the foreground. The painting is by John Duvall and is signed to the bottom right.
Duvall was an Ipswich animal and sporting painter working from 1834 up to 1881. He exhibited 77 works, 49 of them at the Society of British Artists in Suffolk Street. Titles exhibited at the Royal Academy included 'Lambing Time' , 'Shooting Pony and Setters' and 'The Masters Cob'.
He is a noted artist in H.A.E Day East Anglian Painters as well as the Christopher Wood Victorian Painters Guide.
This is in its original gilt frame. The picture measures 38 cm by 33 cm overall, including the frame.
