Rare stick barometer by Adie & Sons of Edinburgh
A high quality oak stick barometer these Famous Instrument Makers.
The engraved bone aslant scales are calibrated from 27" to 31"and are fitted with a double vernier system to enable the user to record the pressure at 10am each day as stated on the base of the scale. Each vernier is controlled using the set keys just below the main dial. The mercury tube is of a substantial thickness to achieve very accurate readings. The engraved bone scale thermometer to the main trunk of the barometer is calibrated from 20º to 120º Fahrenheit and also 0º to 40º Reaumur.
The elegant light oak case has glazing to both the main dial and thermometer dial and terminates with a cushion moulding top and a circular cistern cover. A transportation screw is also provided.
Price: £3,450
Note: Adie & son was a partnership between the renowned Instrument Maker Alexander Adie and his son John. They held a Royal warrant as Opticians to William IV and Queen Victoria. They were they only Father and Son to be elected as Fellows of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. It is most unusual to find a stick barometer by these makers made in oak and of this particular style.
