Rare Nelson Interest Bilston Enamel Patch Box 1797
RARE AND INTERESTING 18TH CENTURY BILSTON ENAMEL PATCH BOX WITH NELSON INTEREST CIRCA 1797
Very interesting 18th Century Bilston enamel patch box with Horatio Nelson interest, the Motto "We Live in Hope".
The image is said to depict Nelson's wife Fanny looking out to see hoping for Nelson to return home. Nelson's actions at the Battle of Cape St Vincent in 1797 made him a popular hero, but terrified Fanny that he might be killed in some heroic act. He went on further expeditions, leading from the front, and lost most of his right arm at the Battle of Santa Cruz de Tenerife later in 1797. She constantly begged him to return home. He did for a short while, before returning back to sea.
The box is in superb condition with no loss to the enamelling, the colours are still very vibrant with blue ground and borders and gilt lettering. White interior. Good strong hinge. Snaps shut firmly. Some light foxing to the mirror.
A great collectable. Free P&P Worldwide. We can supply a Certificate of Authenticity and Gift Boxing Service on Request.
Payment can be made by Paypal Credit or Debit Card online only by using the facility below.
We can also accept bank transfer or cheque.
All items are fully refundable if not satisfied for any reason if returned within 7 days of receipt.
