Rare celluloid foil compact 1930s crinoline lady fairy powder compact rare compact mirrors for sale

A rare compact mirror which was probably made by H C Foster & Co, Cranston, Rhode Island c. 1935. The lid is the most delightful you could find. A lady in a hooped skirt has been surprised by a tiny fairy who is offering a flower to her, a basket of flowers held by her left hand. The lady is shocked to see the tiny fairy & all this is conveyed beautifully - both are in silhouette as is the foliage in the foreground. The design nicely finished by three black circles which form a border the top of which is decorated with garlands of flowers. The foil lid is in excellent condition as it is protected by a celluloid cover. The foil is the palest of gold colours & highly textured.
All clasps & hinges work perfectly. The lid opens to reveal a deep powder well & a hinged metal mirror which opens to show another metal mirror. Both mirrors are very good & give an excellent reflection. The second mirror protects the beautifully gilded rouge compartment. The whole compact has a deep golden patina & is in very good condition. The sides are decorated with embossed golden flowers - very pretty. The base is black celluloid - slight signs of wear here as you would expect but nothing that detracts from this delightful antique compact.
This antique celluloid foil compact measures 1 3/4" & weighs 31.5 grams.
