Railway Coat Of Arms c.1910.
Fine piece of Edwardian era railway memorabilia here in the shape of this large coat of arms for the Manchester, South Junction and Altrincham Railway. Colour transfer laid onto a solid mahogany shield shaped panel. Design is in excellent condition, a few knocks to the timber.
The Manchester, South Junction and Altrincham Railway Co. was created in 1845 to create a vital link (the South Junction) between the lines from Liverpool which terminated at Ordsall Lane in Salford and lines approaching from the East which ended at London Rd (now Manchester Piccadilly). The resulting line was a triumph of Victorian engineering, a mile and a half long viaduct skirting the Southern side of the city, crossing canals and streets and creating Manchester Oxford Rd Station, which became the company’s headquarters. The company ran it’s own carriages along a branch line which left the South Junction at the Castlefield canal basin and followed the Bridgewater Canal South to Altrincham and Bowdon.
Dimensions: width 19″, height 19″. Please contact us for more images, delivery and shipping quotes. Alternatively you are welcome to view and collect at our large warehouse showroom in Llandudno Junction, North Wales (approximately 45mins from Chester). We have a large and ever changing selection of genuine good quality antique furniture of all types and have twice been shortlisted for the Home and Antiques Magazine Antique Shop of the Year Award. 01492 580022.
