Quality Antique English Cigar Cabinet / Humidor
A really terrific antique English cigar cabinet or box made from the finest quality solid Oak with a rich Cognac colouring, a wonderful background for these sensational solid cast brass fittings. All the fittings have been painstakingly professionally polished to gleam including all the swing handles to the front of the drawers.
The top has a fabulous engraved presentation plaque, of interest to Naval or Coast Guard collectors. It was presented to Captain F.K.C Gibbons of the British Royal Navy in the year 1913. Frederick Kenrick Colquhoun Gibbons (1865–1954), son of Captain Frederick Gibbons, brother of the fifth Baronet, was a Captain in the Royal Navy.
The interior of the drawers is lined in Cedar wood which is what kept cigars fresh this is not officially a Humidor as these are modern devices used to regulate the humidity within it is the Cedar lining that did this job naturally well over 100 years ago. The drawers are split into two compartments each with adjustable dividers which can even be removed to accommodate a large cigar, each interior measuring 7" x 5 1/4".
It has the most unusual working lock, once unlocked the bar running down the front is hinged and moves to side and the drawers are then released to move each side of the central locking bar.
A fabulous showy example and a impressive grand size and in excellent condition. The footprint measures 15" x 10 1/2" x 11 1/2" tall. Complete with working key.
