The finest Quality 19th Century Rosewood,Brass bound and Strung Writing Slope Box with secret Drawer to base.It opens to reveal tooled leather slope,with pentray,stamps section and a pair of exceptional quality Inkwells with gilt screw tops,on top of each is a gilt crown, have never seen Inkwells the like before.The Secret drawer in base is opened/locked from inside by lifting a small inset brass lever,again a unique design feature, usually these drawers are opened by pulling out a Brass Pin.Inside the Drawer are a number of Family Letters,and Memoriam Cards,,also a multiple folded paper formed to enclose various locks of woven and ribboned Hair,each one labelled with the deceased name.If you look at the Photos you can see a triangular multiple folded paper bottom right. This Box is in lovely condition and has obviously been in the same family since c.1860.It measures 40cms x 26cms x 18cms. Please also note more photos are avilable on request.
