This is a pair of Fu Temple Lions
The Fu lions or dogs of Fo are always found in pairs
One is male and the other one is female
The figures each have a ball in their mouths
This represents a pearl that can roll round their mouth
But it is sized in a way that it can not be moved
Dates 1830-1850
Made out of hardwood
These are very heavy each one weighs 8kg
Hand carved
