Original Victorian Punch and Judy Puppets & Stage
This is a fascinating and very rare original Punch and Judy set dating from around 1880. The set comprises of 6 original hand carved wood head puppets, that are hand painted in beautiful detail. The feet and hands are also hand painted carved wood. The bodies look hand made from scrap material contemporary to the age of the puppets.
The puppets come with their original theatre. It is a free-standing structure that folds out. The wooden construction is covered in various Victorian paper and material with a large paper image of a clown pasted to the front.
Each puppet is 40cm high and the stage is 55.5cm wide, 75.5cm high and 34cm deep when the sides are open.
There is an additional puppet that is made from paper mache that is probably a little later and home made. Comes with original Victorian material bag with wooden handles.
Condition.
The condition is generally good.
The stage: The material and paper has some surface dirt. One of the side panels has sizable impact damage with three cracks radiating from the hole.
The Puppets: There is some paint and gesso loss to three of the noses, the devil appears to have lost a little of the wood to his nose. The ghost has some paint loss. There is surface dirt to the heads. The clothes are a little tatty as not very well hand sown.
We have a 14 day return policy. We accept returns if item is not as described or generally you are not happy with the item, buyer to pay return postage. Full refund of purchase price on safe return minus postage costs. This is only available within 14 days of receipt of the item.
Any items that are picked up must be paid in cash.
