This is a mounted, hand-coloured steel engraving of a COMPARATIVE VIEW OF THE PRINCIPAL WATERFALLS, ISLANDS, LAKES, RIVERS AND MOUNTAINS IN THE EASTERN HEMISPHERE drawn and engraved by John Rapkin for "The Illustrated Atlas and Modern History of the World" published by Tallis & Co in 1851.

Its original outline hand-colouring has been augmented with later hand-colouring of the border, waterfalls and mountains by a specialist, which has enhanced the decorative appeal of this attractive map.

In good condition and from the preferred edition without the central fold, it was printed on heavy grade paper, blank verso and unfolded. There is some soiling of the edges from being thumbed, a little ink splatter bottom right and a minor marginal tear at the bottom.

Mounted within a cream mount card and protected in cellophane, it is ready for framing or for giving as a gift.
