Omega Military Steel Airforce Pocket Watch
Omega Military Steel Airforce Pocket Watch
Swiss 1945 - Soldier F020045
A genuine Omega military Airforce steel open-face pocket watch, made in 1945.
Dial: The white enamel dial has black Arabic numerals, luminous hands and a subsidiary second’s dial at the six. The numbers 3, 9 and 12 are luminous and there are luminous outer five-minute divisions. The dial is signed Omega with the Omega logo.
Movement: The club tooth lever escapement movement has 15 jewels, a plain cock with polished steel micrometer regulator, compensation balance and blued steel overcoil hairspring. The movement is signed: "OMEGA, SWISS, 15 JEWELS" and numbered: 10013771. The pocket watch is in great working condition however, we cannot guarantee accuracy for an antique watch.
Case: The watch lies in a keyless wind open faced snapback round case with a smooth finish and is in very good condition. It is engraved military arrow G.S.T.P. and inscribed with the soldier’s number: F020045. The case is signed on the inside: "OMEGA, Fab. Suisse, Swiss Made" with the Omega logo and numbered: 1140.
The inscription on the back of the case G.S.T.P. with a military arrow stands for: “General Service Time Piece”.
This scarce example was supplied by the renowned maker Omega, whose name and trademark appear on the dial. Omega was first contracted by the British during the First World War, when the supplied motor vehicle antique clocks for army trucks. However, between 1939 and 1945 the British were supplied with huge quantities of Omega watches which totalled over 100.000 pieces. These represented over half the total number of timepieces procured by the British armed forces during the war. After the Allied victory Field Marshall Montgomery visited the Biel factory and personally thanked the staff at Omega for their work towards the war effort.
Signed: OMEGA – Swiss Made - 1945
Diameter: 51 mm - Total Weight: 76.5 gram
