Oak Stick barometer by Bryson of Edinburgh
An excellent example of Scottish instrument making.
The engraved bone aslant scales are calibrated from 27" to 31"and are fitted with a singular vernier which is controlled using the set key just below the main dial. The engraved bone scale thermometer to the main trunk of the barometer is calibrated from 0º to 130º Fahrenheit.
The elegant light oak case has glazing to both the main dial and thermometer dials, a rounded top and a circular cistern cover. A transportation screw is also provided.
Note: James Mackay Bryson White was born on 21st February 1824 in Edinburgh Scotland. In the 1881 Census he was living with his wife Mary at 35 Inverleith Row, Edinburgh. He listed as an Optician. He was the son of Robert Bryson, the famous Clockmaker, Inventor, Optician and Instrument Maker.
