Mid 20th.c. limed oak bedroom suite by British manufacturer Gomme Furniture of High Wycombe. In the simple arts and crafts style pioneered by Heals with simple modern lines, minimal decoration and orginal wooden handles. Comprising of a chest of drawers with secretaire top, a bedside cabinet, a small two drawer chest of drawers with cupboard top and a two door wardrobe.
As well as clear marks by Gomme, and original Gomme logo wardrobe key, each piece also carries the mark of the Utility antique furniture scheme, a wartime project to adapt to the shortage of raw materials and an important aspect of the development of modern furniture design in Britain. The Utility scheme ran from 1942 – 1952. Following the war Gomme pioneered popular modern furniture design selling direct to the public under the well known mark G-Plan.
