Mid-size Art Deco silver Stabilis wristwatch, 1923
Mid-size silver Stabilis wrist watch, 1923.
The watch has a Swss 15-jewel hand-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is stamped with the name Stabilis, a brand name registered by the Record Dreadnought Watch Company in 1919.
The watch measures 21mm wide excluding the winding crown and 31mm high excluding the lugs. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the hinged case back for London 1923 with a sponsor’s mark for George Stockwell.
From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail.
The case is in lovely condition although someone has scratched some very small numbers on the side of the case… this could be an old service reference or a pawn broker’s mark.
The lens is in good condition.
The dial is in its original finish which has darkened a shade or two with age but still easy to read. There is a little unevenness to the dial but not too noticeable. Original blued steel hands.
A new leather strap has been fitted.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
