Mid-size 1960s Sully Special wrist watch.
Schulem Shaya, a former Polish citizen, of La Chaux-de-Fonds, founded his watchmaking business in 1922, registered the Sully Watch name in 1925. The business went bankrupt in 1932 but was reinstated in 1933, this time manufacturing and exporting watches and, from 1934, the company also dealt in textiles and later bicycle parts.
This particular watch has a 21-jewel hand-winding movement which is working nicely.
The watch measures 28.5mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is gold plated while the screw-on case back is stainless steel. The case is in lovely condition. The back of the watch has the shield and crown bearing the legend “Sully Swiss” which was registered in October 1959.
The lens is in lovely condition, as is the signed dial which is in its original finish with original hands and centre seconds hand (some natural light reflection showing in the photos).
A new leather strap has been fitted.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
