Mauchline Tartan Ware Games Box - Caledonia c.1880
So very hard to come by these days, this is the first large piece of Tartanware we have had in some time. Dating to around 1880, this fabulous large piece is made from a soft wood base and covered in the highly desirable printed Tartan Ware decoration labelled "Caladonia".
The slightly domed lid is beautifully decorated with decoupaged playing cards, an outstanding combination against the Tartan background.
The hinged lid opens to reveal four playing card compartments containing cards and in the centre, two lidded compartments containing gamin counters and a pair of dice.
Victorian in era, the box remains in excellent condition with minor wear commensurate with age. 11" x 7" x 2".
