wood engravings set into text overall size 33 x 20 cm image size 31 x 36 cm. on verso engraved title. paper thin, evenly browned, in places slightly soiled, thumbed, occ. foxed edges slightly frayed stitch hole in lower margin not affecting image add. creases some paper thinness o/w vg cond.

Munster's Cosmographia is the earliest German description of the world with numerous editions in different languages the last German edition was published in 1628, long after his death. - The Cosmographia was one of the most important and successful books in the 16th century, with numerous single and double paged maps and topographical views as well as engravings of costumes, personages, animals, flowers and mythical beasts. - In this depiction, the North is orientated to the right.

Munster's maps are a staple edition to any map collection!
