Maori Waka Taua (war canoe) model

This item is a hand-carved Maori Waka Taua (war canoe) model, on a wooden base, originating from New Zealand
It features intricate traditional carvings, often including Paua shell inlay . Made from native woods such as Kauri or Totara. Comes with 6 hand carved paddles.
Dimensions:- 103 x 42 x 12 cms.
Waka taua are impressive looking pre-European war canoes, still carved in New Zealand, and still taken out on the water for special occasions, like Waitangi Day.
The prow (ihu), stern-post (taurapa) and side panels of traditional waka taua were beautifully carved and featured designs and styles particular to each tribe.
This Maori war canoe is also beautifully carved, and inlaid with New Zealand Paua shell. It comes with 6 replica hoe (paddles), and is proudly carved in Rotorua, New Zealand.
The stern post and stand are removable, to make shipping easier and safer.
A waka taua makes a wonderful souvenir of a holiday in New Zealand and an excellent presentation piece. Fabulous trophy too!
