Mahogany Signwriter's / Artist's Box with Contents
This is a fascinating mahogany case / box with all its contents which would have once belonged to a signwriter, circa 1900. The rectangular case bearing the initials JHW in gold with its neat dovetail joints, metal corner mounts and leather carrying handle opens via two catches to reveal 5 small drawers each with brass ring-pull handles, two small open compartments for paint pots and a long open compartment for large paint brushes. The inside of the lid bears two mahogany artist's palettes, one smaller than the other.
The drawers are full of the tools of the trade: numerous metal letter stencils and fine paint brushes can be found in the long drawer, coloured chalks and a chamois cloth in the two short deep drawers, books of gold leaf, plumb line, compass and razor blades in the pair of short, shallow drawers.
Dimensions: Width 46 cm, Height (excluding handle) 33 cm, Depth 15 cm. (18 x 13 x 6 inch)
Condition: The box has been well used with paint splashes on the inside and outside. One of the catches has broken but the other still functions so the box can be carried closed.
Postage & packing: £15 within the UK.
