Magnificent Antique English Decanter Box c.1880
A rare find and a superb and impressive decanter case / tantalus dating to the Victorian era, around 1880. The box and decanters are extremely heavy but shipping to it's new destination is included.
The box is covered in rich cognac coloured burr Walnut, my very favourite timber the interior of the case is lined in Satinwood. The top and all four sides is inset with thick bevelled glass showcasing the four grand large Victorian cut crystal decanters within.
The decanters are set into a drawer again Burr Walnut and inset with a polished brass campaign style flush handle to pull out the interior tray. The underside of the tray has four wheels on which run down a brass rail set to the base of the box and along the interior of the drop-front. The front handle is used to pull the tray out and once out, there are flush handles each side to lift the tray onto the (protected) table top. The wheels underneath are then used to pass the decanters around the table.
The four decanters are large in scale with the ever-popular hobnail cut to the crystal each having a base measuring 3 3/4" square and stand 9 1/4" tall.
A truly magnificent gem in superb condition. The box measures an overall 101/2" x 10 1/2" and stands 12 3/4" tall.
