Lucie Rie Studio Pottery Stoneware Serving Dish
Dame Lucie Rie (Austrian born, 1902 - 1995).
A fine and unusual handled pan or shallow serving dish.
c.1950.
Modelled in stoneware, the underside is covered in Rie's celebrated dark manganese type glaze, which contrasts beautifully with the pale, speckled oatmeal to the upper surface.
The dish is shallow and the inner surface is only slightly concave - almost disk-like. The handle has a simple linear design in sgraffito, as shown.
There is a lovely sense of design here, very reflective of the period. This item came from a range that would be considered Rie's 'standard ware', but it was anything but 'ordinary'. The pieces oozed style and a unique, understated sophistication.
This piece measures approximately 18 cms in diameter (excluding the handle). Email or call for any further information on this item. We give great attention to each and every item we select and offer for sale, priding ourselves on the accuracy of our descriptions and research. We are very happy to provide complete and exacting condition reports (together with further photographs, where necessary) and encourage buyers to request this information prior to purchase.
Accepted payment methods are via paypal, bank transfer, personal cheque or cash.
Viewing of any item in person, prior to purchase, is always welcomed by appointment.
