Lis Bjergsted 1929-2007 W/Colour Westminster Abbey
We are offering for sale this beautifully executed and subtly toned watercolour by the Danish artist Lis Bjergsted, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner with her pseudonym Paula French. The painting depicts the western facade of Westminster Abbey on a snowy day in London.
There is snow on the ledges of the building and the tops of the cars and the passers-by are well wrapped. The man in the foreground is carrying a small black dog under his arm. The sky looks full of snow.
Lis Bjergsted was born in Copenhagen on 9th October 1929. She was a painter in oils and watercolours, specialising in painting city landscapes and was fascinated by the architecture and atmosphere of major cities. Her oils are more brightly coloured and are mainly scenes in Denmark, whilst the watercolours are more subtle, as this one, and appear to be of London landmarks. A short biography of her is available of askart.com, although the full biography is only available to subscribers. She died on 27th October 2007.
Auction results achieved for works by this artist are available at findartinfo (55 listings), artprice (21) and artnet (2).
The painting has been newly double mounted in two tone acid free mountboard to complement and is newly framed in an 1 1/8" ornate gilt frame to suit. It is ready to hang.
