A late 1950s compact walnut sideboard, bearing the Russell of Broadway (Cotswolds) brand, having a very attractively chamfered edge to the top surface over a set of three central drawers with rounded handles (one including a cutlery divider having slightly worn brown baize lining) flanked by cupboards - one with an internal shelf. Raised on sturdy square legs the unit was originally sold by Hopewells, Nottingham, suppliers of quality antique furniture since 1885, contemporaneous with Sir Gordon Russell (1892-1980) himself and the evolution of craftsmanship and design in British antique furniture.
