Large Reeves & Sons Artist / Watercolour Box c1860
A fabulous Victorian Artist / Paint / Watercolour box dating to around 1860 by the famous Reeves & Sons of 113 Cheapside, London.
The box is made from Mahogany, brass bound in a military / campaign style with a flush inlaid brass handle to the lower drawer, an inlaid cartouche to the lid and a complimentary escutcheon to the front which houses the working key.
The paint blocks are in good condition and nice to see so many of the original. The two glass water dishes, ceramic palette are intact. Below this ceramic dish, there is a removable wooden plinth, the underside showing a lovely label. Once the paint block tray, a storage compartment can be found below containing a few brushes.
There are two original brass topped inkwells, both in good condition, one for red ink the other for black ink. The lid is made from gold embossed leather which opens to reveal a portfolio for paper storage.
The pin to the front is removed to enable the bottom drawer to be opened, revealing two further ceramic palettes both signed on the underside by Reeves and Sons Ltd., London. Both are original and in good antique condition.
A most impressive size and in superb condition, measuring 12" x 9 1/4" x 4" tall. Victorian in era, dating to c.1860.
