Large Ornate Mali Dogon Granary Door Early 20thc
Large ornate Mali granary door from the Dogon people of Africa. Iron stapled reliefs to sliding latch handle. Integrated wooden hinges.
Meticulously carved hardwood, featuring many rows of masked Dogon tribesmen. Central display with reptilian motif evocative of the dangerous wildlife of Mali. This symbolism has spiritual significance, believed to ward off ill fortune.
Would make a wonderful piece of wall art.
