Large Gilded Anthemion On Period, Ebony Base
A beautifully gilded anthemion in excellent condition presented rising above a period ebony base with some age related wear, but not damage.
The gilded anthemion most likely being limewood, would originally have adorned an early 19th century decorative piece.
Probably of Regency period.
An anthemion is a design consisting of a number of radiating petals, originating back to the ancient Greeks and from the Egyptian and Asiatic form namely a palmette.
Looking to Roman & Greek architecture & ceramics you will find the design incorporated throughout.
The more you look for, it as with the Greek key design, the more you will observe.

Base diameter: 16.5 cm
Anthemion height: 16.5 cm
Anthemion width: 14.5 cm
Anthemion depth: 5.5cm
