Large Early Victorian Silver Cream / Gravy Jug
Very nice large silver jug with gilt interior, of circular, round bellied form with wide flared lip and set on an ornate cast frame to form 4 scrolled feet with acanthus leaf and arabesque detail. Double scrolled handle also formed from overlapping acanthus leaves. A very good size, could be used easily for sauce or gravy as well as for milk / cream. Hallmarked for Birmingham 1849, makers Elkington & Co.
It measures 11.7cm (4 5/8") high, 14.2cm (5 5/8") rim to handle and 10.2cm (4") wide. It weighs 253g / 8.1ozt. It has a sensible capacity of just over 1/2 a pint (340ml). Condition is very good with no damage, dents or repairs and surface wear is very light, the gilding and hallmarks are in fine order. Payment is accepted by bank transfer, card payments (via an online invoice, I'm afraid we cannot take payments over the telephone), Paypal and UK personal cheque.
