Large 19th Century Black Forest Carved Mirror.
This is a beautifully carved large oak Black Forest Mirror with its original crest.
The frame is of cushion form and geometrically carved on all sides with scrolls of acanthus leaf foliate decoration.
The crest is mounted to the frame by its original metal brackets. It features a pair of Lions passant (standing with one paw raised) either side of a central shield surmounted by an overhanging canopy of leaves. This may have been carved to commission as the heraldic coat of arms for a specific family estate.
Origins - Switzerland or Southern Germany. Late 19th Century.
Condition - Very good throughout.
The bevelled mirror plate is in good original condition with minor marks commensurate with age.
The back boards are original
The frame has had small repairs along the bottom edge of the frame, these have hessian reinforcement behind.

Width: 92 centimetres
Depth: 10 centimetres
