Kendal & Dent Kendentick half hunter pocket watch
Kendentick half hunter pocket watch.
The watch has a Swiss 17-jewel stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is by Revue but signed DF&C for the Swiss exporting company Dimier Freres & Cie. It is also signed with the name The Kendentick, a brand name given to some of the watches sold by Kendal & Dent.
Kendal & Dent were a well reputed English maker, one of many who started making their own watches in the 19th century and moved on to import "private label" Swiss watches, such as this one, when the Swiss started to dominate the market in the 20th century.
The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which has a little marking where it has been opened in the past.
The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is the gold filled Moon model from the English watch case maker Aaron Dennison. Dennisons manufactured cases for various watch makers, often as a way to avoid import tax on imported cases with precious metal content.
The front of the case has a small central lens surrounded by enamel filled Roman numerals. There is a little unevenness to the front of the case and minor surface marking to the back but overall, very acceptable for such an early piece.
The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover.
Inside, there is an acrylic lens which is in good condition.
The dial is signed with the name Kendal & Dent, London, Makers to The Admiralty, The Kendentick. The dial is in good condition, just a little discolouration to the subsidiary seconds dial, and it includes the special half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
