James Gatty,Early 10 inch Wheel Barometer
A fine and attractive early wheel barometer by James Gatty, 132 Holborn, London. Swan-neck pediment with brass finial, hydrometer dial, long mercury thermometer, 10” dial and level bearing his name and address. The case veneered in Cuban mahogany and edged with triple stringing. The silvered dials are all finely engraved. On the back of the removable thermometer box is entered in ink- “1794 Janry 4th at night 10 degrees below freezing point. Janry 5th morning 8….”
