Very attractive late Victorian box that has been beautifully and skilfully refurbished to serve as a modern day jewellery box. The style of box was popular during the latter part of the 1800’s through to the early 1900’s. Very attractive grain. All veneer is in superb condition, all original and complete. Original inlaid brass shield style cartouche and escutcheon. The lid closes perfectly square. Original hinges and lock with a working key supplied. The interior is in spotless condition. Ruched silk panel set within a contrasting silk covered frame to the lid interior. The base section comprises of 17 storage sections, the 3 sections to the centre with silk covered lids with gilt ring pulls. Nice finishing touch with the use of different coloured lids to complement the lining throughout the box interior, indicative of the care taken by the person that did the refurbishment. Please note….the box is considerably better than the photographs suggest and is darker…. the best representation of the colour is photograph of the rear of the box.
A very attractive antique box with a particularly attractive exterior profile, circa 130 years old in a condition certain to please.
