A handsome and very unusual English novelty inkwell / desk set made from solid cast brass with an Equestrian theme.

The footed base has a decorative engraved decoration around the rim framing the scene within. There is some lovely detail to this set with a central plinth draped in a plaid / tartan rug with fringed trim and topped with a large Jockey's cap complete with with bow at the front.

The horse and jockey galloping toward the jump is beautifully detailed including a patterned saddle. All of this has a backdrop of a large horseshoe pen stand for three dip pens (the pen I have used in the photography is not included).

Late Victorian in era dating to c.1880, the set has been professionally cleaned to gleam and remains in superb condition. 7" in diameter x 5" tall.
