Gold pair cases - 48.5 mm
Cylinder, quarter repeating movement
This is a fine quality cylinder, quarter repeating movement, in gold pair cases, by a good London maker.
MOVEMENT Good quality gilded cylinder fusee movement, with finely engraved balance cock, diamond endstone and blued screws. All in good original condition, running and repeating well. Fully signed (Ja. Upjohn, London) and numbered (2007).
The movement is protected by a gilt brass removable dustcap, signed and numbered as the movement.
DIAL The white enamel dial is about 37 mm in diameter. It is in perfect condition. Nice gold hands.
INNER CASE Diameter 42.5 mm. Gold, pierced and engraved, with internal bell. All in good condition with no repairs and just a few scratches around the bezel.
OUTER CASE Diameter 48.5 mm. Gold hallmarks for 18ct, London, 1816. So a little later than the watch, but a perfect fit so almost certainly made specially for the watch. A nice heavy gold case (39 gms) in perfect condition.
James Upjohn is listed in London from 1749 until 1773. After then he worked as James Upjohn & Co.
