Gold pair cases, repousse - Shearwood, c1770
MOVEMENT Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance bridge and plate. Four square pillars. Signed and numbered (9274). All in good original condition and running well.
DIAL White enamel in good condition with no repairs, a small chip on the edge at 6 and a light hairline from 5. Fancy gilt hands.
INNER CASE London hallmarks for 22ct gold, but maker and year mark rubbed. In good condition though the pendant and bow are replacements (in rose rather than yellow gold) with a possible old repair where the stem is atttached to the case. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. Good high dome crystal with no damage.
OUTER CASE A fine solid gold repousse case with wonderful detail. The catch and hinge are good and the case snaps shut nicely. There is a little wear to the high points of the repousse work, resulting in a tiny hole at the catch rivet. No repairs or other damage.
The case has a tiny continental gold mark stamped on the hinge (French or Swiss). Many of these repousse cases were made on the continent for English watches.
James Shearwood is listed in London between 1759 and 1780.
Free worldwide postage.
Payments by cheque, bank transfer, credit & debit cards and Paypal accepted.
