"Please Leave Key with the Hall Porter" at the top.
The size and weight of this fob would certainly encourage customers to leave it with the porter!
Approximate dimensions: length 12cm, width at top 2cm and at bottom 4.3cm, weight 51.8 grams.
Not sure which metal it is but it looks like lead.
The lettering would originally all have been black but this has largely been lost.
The fob does show the patina of age. Please see photos.
GNR operated from 1846 until the grouping in 1923.
Stylish GNR monogram.
The hotel was built in 1854 by the architect Lewis Cubitt. The impressive hotel was a stylish point of departure/arrival for the passengers on the new steam trains.
