Gilt pair cases, verge - Perigal, London c1780
MOVEMENT Fully signed (Fras. Perigal, Royal Exchange, LONDON) and numbered (19693). Gilded verge movement with engraved and pierced balance cock. Good original condition and running well.
DIAL White enamel. The dial has some scratches but no chips, hairlines or repairs.
INNER CASE Gilt brass. Maker's mark WQ and also stamped with the movement serial number 19693. Good condition with no dents but the gilding has worn off. The case does close but doesn't stay shut. The high dome bull's eye crystal has one very small chip at the bezel but otherwise fine.
OUTER CASE No marks. No dents, though scratched on the back and the case has been regilded. Replacement catch button. The inner case fits this outer ok but it doesn't close well as the hinge has been bent and the catch worn.
So a nice movement and dial but the cases need a little work.
There are a number of makers of this name listed in London through the 18th century. This is probably Francis Perigal (III) who was at Royal Exchange, London from about 1778. Free worldwide postage.
Payments by cheque, bank transfer, credit & debit cards and Paypal accepted.
