A very decorative giant clam shell with a well defined shape and good colour. Giant clams inhabit the oceans of the Pacific and Indian Oceans and have a lifespan of over 100 years. The layers, built up over the course of many years make the shells very heavy and can be difficult to date precisely. This antique clam shell from a private collection, is in good condition. There is a small historic repair to one side and some minor chipping to a small area of the front, the inside surface is lovely and smooth a a good white colour. A perfect and unusual decorative object.
