This is a fine quality German Bavarian marquetry inlaid burr walnut, ebony & satinwood antique jewellery / sewing box, circa 1860, in excellent condition.

Description:
This is a fine quality German Bavarian marquetry inlaid burr walnut, ebony & satinwood jewellery / sewing box, circa 1860, in excellent condition. The box boasts an ebony frame, with burr walnut veneer & profuse satinwood & ebony cross banding & inlay to the lid, front, sides and rear. In particular, the box features a raised, moulded lid, which displays satinwood floral marquetry & geometric string inlay to the centre, surrounded by an ebony moulded border. The outer portion of the lid features burr walnut veneer, with satinwood string inlay in a zig-zag pattern, as well as ebony string inlay and a further ebony moulded perimeter. The front, sides & rear of the box display further walnut veneer, set within a cross banded and string inlaid border & ebony frame. Below, the box rests on an ebony moulded plinth and rounded pad feet. The box also boasts the original working lock, with working key, as well as the original mother-of-pearl escutcheon. Inside, the box opens to reveal geometric satinwood inlay set it ebony, with burr walnut cross banding, satinwood string inlay and a raised ebony border to the inside of the lid. The box interior also retains its original removable tray, which has been newly lined in a green baize material and features alternating ebony & satinwood inlay to the edge. With the tray removed, the box interior is lined with figured walnut.
The box features a mellow brown burr walnut & rich dark brown ebony colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and the years of care and cleaning it has received.

The box is in excellent condition, which is commensurate with its age. Nominal old use marks to the exterior and leading edges of the box, including the interior but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The internal tray has been newly lined in a green baize material therefore, the baize is clean and free from rips, tears or stains. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination. There are no missing pieces to the inlay. The box retains its original working lock, with working key. The original brass hinges are also in good working order. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.

Delivery times are usually 1-4 weeks depending on location we aim to deliver the majority of items within 2 weeks. All items are professionally packaged and fully insured in transit, therefore, we can assure you, your items will be securely protected in transit and arrive safely with you.
Once you have purchased an item, we will contact you be email and/or telephone and provide you with a provisional delivery date, in order for you to confirm if it is suitable for you. Once you have confirmed you can accept delivery on the provisional delivery date, we will book the delivery in with our shippers and it then becomes a confirmed delivery date.

For any large items that require 2 people to lift the item, we ask that you are available at the time of delivery to be able to give our shipper a lift off the van and into your house with the item. A free 14-day “no quibble” returns policy (from the date you receive the item) is available if you are not happy with this item. We will collect the item free of charge from you (we do not charge a return fee / collection fee). You will be given a full refund as long as the item is returned in the same condition. We will collect returns using our own specialist antique furniture delivery company. We will not accept returns via a courier service (due to experience of damaged items in transit).
