Georgian Stick Barometer Gatward, Hitchin, Herts.
A late Georgian mahogany stick barometer. A mahogany case of good proportions with cistern cover to the base and brass bound. An architectural pediment with brass finial. A well engraved silvered scale with slide pressure adjuster and mercury thermometer. Circa 1830.
The Gatward family of instrument makers are noted in Banfields' 'Barometer Makers and Retailers' book. Benjamin worked from 1795 and John from 1828-1851.
