Georgian Oak Candle Salt Box
Late 18th or early 19thC this Georgian box in oak was probably a candle box or perhaps a combined box for candles and salt. Both had to be kept dry but neither could get too hot so would have hung near the fireplace. Salt most likely in the lift up hinged top, held by a the external hinge, with small candles in the drawer.
Either way it is now a charming piece that hangs flat agains the wall and can fit a hundred and one uses in a modern home. My shop at 1 Bridge St, Dulverton TA22 9HJ is open
