Georgian Mercury Barometer Porta Newcastle
A Georgian period mercury wheel barometer. A mahogany case with an architectural pediment and brass central finial. Marquetry and parquetry shell inlays to the case. A long engraved silvered dial. The main dial is engraved 'PORTA NEWCASTLE'. Circa 1820.
Porta of Newcastle is recorded in Banfields' 'Barometer Makers and Retailers' book as working from 1810-1830.
