George V Silver Mounted Ebony Pin Box, 1913/14
This is a smart and practical George V Sterling Silver Mounted Ebony Pin Box. The box is rectangular with a hinged lid which has the word Pins and four corner mounts made out of Sterling Silver set on to the lid.
The silver is hallmarked for Corke Brothers & Co of London with the word Pins dated to 1913 and the four corner mounts dated to 1914. Corke Brothers & Co registered their mark at Goldsmiths Hall in August 1904. They specialised in small silver items, primarily for personal use. The firm ceased trading around 1916.
Condition is good with just a few minor wear marks where the box has been opened and closed over many years of use. The hinges are in good working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The rectangular box is 12cm / 4.7ins by 6.8cm / 2.7ins and stands 3.2cm / 1.2ins high. It weighs 86.3g / 3oz.
The hallmarks on the mounts and the lettering are nice and clear to read with just some loss to the makers' mark on the lettering. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter s for 1913 or t for 1914 and the C Brs makers' mark for Corke Brothers & Co.
Shipping in the UK is £6.50 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
