Circa 1820, George IV mahogany sarcophagus shaped wine cooler. The raised rectangular top has a stylish gadrooned edge and beneath this is a concave moulding which forms the upper part of the lid. There is a large rounded moulding which runs around the entire top. This is hinged and opens to reveal the interior which has a new aluminium liner added, making it functional as a modern day wine cooler. There is also a chain retainer to stop the lid falling back on itself. The main body has fielded panels on all sides which are framed with a shaped beading on the front and side panels. There are original gilded lifting handles on the sides in the form of ring pulls, with a large stylish pummel and a lovely sunburst embossed brass plate. The whole piece stands on simple block feet, with small revolving castors below. Mellow colour, stylish and functional.

Size 45cm high x 75cm wide x 55cm deep.
