George III Style Mahogany Wine Cooler / Vin de Garde Georgian style oval mahogany %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
Circa 1900, George III style oval mahogany wine cooler/Vin de Garde. The oval top has kingwood banding and satinwood inlay. The fore edges are veneered in mahogany and there is a large mahogany beading below. The main body of the piece is made from staved mahogany which has been veneered in flame mahogany on the outside quite a sophisticated process. Each of the panels is framed with satinwood, ebony and boxwood inlay and has a wonderful rich deep colour. There is a single escutcheon on the front. Beneath the body of the piece there is an ogee moulding and the whole piece stands on a mahogany frame with a simple apron. From this protrude 4 square tapering legs finishing on brass tipped castors. Although a Vin de Garde it could be used for magazines, logs or just even as a side table.

Size 65cm high x 53.5cm wide x 29cm deep.
