George III Mahogany Inlaid Bureau George III Georgian mahogany %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
Circa 1775, good George III neat sized mahogany bureau (of naval interest) with an elaborate inlaid and painted flap. To the left and right there are 2 classical urns and in the centre a large cross banded oval panel with an admiral sphere on the right and a compass on the left. In the centre there is a painted and inlaid British naval ship. The flap opens to reveal a very stylish interior with a green felt writing surface, various pigeon holes and drawers. The tops of the pigeon holes have a small pediment which is hand painted across its entirety. The door in the centre again depicts a similar ship to that on the outside and inside this there are further drawers. The bureau itself has a set of 4 full length drawers, with swan neck handles and stylish proud escutcheons with a rounded top and a rounded bottom. The drawer fronts have a wonderful rich colour. Beneath the bottom drawer there is a stylish double ogee moulding and the whole piece stands on bracket feet.

Size 107cm high x 101cm wide x 56cm deep.
