Gents Titus-Matic wrist watch from Solvil et Titus
A gents Titus-Matic wrist watch from Solvil et Titus, Genève.
Paul Ditisheim, a member of the well known family in the horological world, was a child prodigy who gained his diploma from the Horological School of La Chaux de Fonds when he was just 13 yars old. He then worked at several watch manufacturing companies, including his father’s company, Vulcain, before founding Solvil et Titus in 1887. His work with chronometers was rewarded with awards from both the Kew and Neuchâtel Observatories and in 1912, he won the world's chronometric record of the Royal Kew Observatory.
This particular watch has a good quality Swiss 21-jewel automatic movement, with Incabloc shockproofing, which is working nicely.
The watch itself measures 30mm wide excluding the winding crown and 30mm high excluding the lugs. The case is stainless steel and it is in good condition with just light surface marks. The case back is signed and it also states that the watch is waterproof but, as with any vintage watch, it should be kept away from water. The winding crown has the Solvil et Titus logo.
The lens is in lovely condition.
The signed dial is in its original finish with original hands, centre seconds and a date display between 4 and 5 o’clock.
A later leather strap has been fitted, it is showing signs of wear and we can fit a new strap if required.
The watch will be sent in a new presentation box.
ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (excluding Northern Ireland).
Please contact us before placing international orders so that we can advise of shipping prices and to see if customs regulations allow us to post watches to your country.
The international buyer is responsible for paying any import duties and taxes.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
Credit / debit card purchases can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the \'Buy Securely\' button on each listing page.
We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.
